MAC - In the Buff

I have a soft spot for weird colors. I wanted this one. Badly.

I went to my MAC counter last wednesday but they were out of stock already. I tested it on a nail, loved it but the MUA didn't want to give me the tester (well, at least I tried). I consequently ordered it online. There are maybe dupes around but I don't own anything quite like this. As soon as I received it, I put it on. And as soon as I did my pics, I wanted to make a post, although I have a nice layering to show you (the one I love more than "Nouvelle Vague") and other things that were almost ready.

"In the Buff" is a yellowish beige softly going on the green side. I remember that MAC first described it as something like "muted avocado" (if I remember well). I don't truly agree but I agree even less with the current description (on the French website at least) cause they call it a "taupe". Taupe? It's not a taupe, assuredly. It's a beige. While colors like Essie "Jazz" or CDN "Cocoa" are beige tending to go on the pink spectrum, "In the Buff" goes on the yellow/green.

I've read some girl's reactions of disgust saying it looks like baby poo. I personally don't make an obsession over what you can find into baby's diapers, nor do I think of excrement each time I see something yellow/brown on a daily basis so it doesn't make me think of this at all. In fact, it more reminds me of a greenish version of cardboard. Same tone, different color. Also I did a swatch again brown tape (we call the brown tape "chatterton". Is it usual also out of France?). As you see, it's close but lighter. Anyway, it's a nice and original beige and it calls for sand to me. Thus the sand pictures! No I didn't go to the sea (I wish I had), there is just a pot of smooth and gorgeous sand from the beautiful French North coast at home (I think it comes from the area of Calais). As you can see, the sand of our coast is soft beige colored. Anyway, I suceeded to make myself dream with those pics so I hope the effect is also good on you. I could almost see myself in the dunes. Warm sun, indigo sky, indolent marram grass fanned by the wind, extra hot sand under my bare feet. And the smell. The wonderful smell of the sand...

Wake-up now. Enough dreaming... We have to talk about practical things. Formula. Very good. Well pigmented. Well covering. 2 coats. No need for more. It dries in average time and the quality overall is very good. I love MAC polishes in general, they're good. The only reason why I seldom get some is because they're too expensive for me.

To end, I am not sure "In the Buff" suits me. Not exactly. It's too yellow based and it makes me look a bit like raw pork meat. I see this one on a golden tan skin or someone with a less-pink-than-mine skin. But I love its luminosity. Neither too light, neither too dark. "In the Buff" is great and I declare it's great on me too. It's weirdly chic. Yes, very chic in a bizarre way. Okay now that the practical matters have been exposed, we can talk about the sand and the dunes again... Oh and there is also the salt on the lips, the neverending move of the waves. Splashes of salted water, moving frontiers. How I'd want to be here right now.
